Listening. It’s something that we, as members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, try to do every week. As we call on clients, we listen to their requests for help. We hear them explain how they are behind on their water bill or how they need help with their rent or how they are sleeping on the floor and need a bed. But, sometimes when we truly listen, we hear something else. We hear the stories behind their needs. We hear that they have been helping elderly parents who are sick and living with them. We hear that they were recently let go from a job because of industry lay-offs. We hear that they just received custody of their children again and have given their bed to them. What happens when we really listen? We get closer to becoming true disciples of Christ. When we take time to listen, and wait to hear God’s call and self-revelation, we can be transformed. Sometimes this revelation comes through others – perhaps in their cry for help. Sometimes the revelation comes through prayer in which we take some time to listen to God. If you are listening and waiting for God’s call to help, please consider this it. Please consider helping SVDP this month. Thank you.
