Take a deep breath, brothers and sisters. We ain’t seen nothing yet. Although this year has already been crazy enough for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, we expect further and perhaps deeper impact from the pandemic. We have already suspended Home Visits because of the safety of our Vincentians and of those we serve. We have replaced hot meals at the soup kitchen with bagged lunches. We stopped meeting in person. We closed our store temporarily. Yet we also adapted. We found new ways to get food to people, and rent and utility payments to suppliers, with little or no personal contact beyond the telephone. The Society has not thrived since 1833 without learning a few lessons on how to face challenges. Now, we face a brief, welcome pause before the coming tsunami of housing and utilities requests. It is a good time for prayer of thanksgiving to our generous donors and for mercy. Please continue to consider St. Vincent de Paul in your weekly or monthly giving. With your prayers and help, we can continue to weather the storm together.
