From Fr. Godfrey
– RENOVATION. The contractors continue to assure me that construction will be completed by August 31. While there have been some savings along the way, there are also expenses not included in the contract, all of which seem to balance out, if all the pledges are paid. We have nearly one million dollars in pledges still to be made before the campaign reaches its end in October. Thanks to so many who have met their pledge (or exceeded it). And thanks to all who faithfully make their pledge payments month by month. Together, we will get there!
– CHARITY. Recently, I’ve read some awful and disrespectful posts on FaceBook. This time, they are not about me. We MUST realize the scandal that results when Christian people are utterly lacking in charity. In ancient days, those who weren’t Christian were known to say, “See how they love one another.” I firmly believe that FaceBook isn’t the problem. Our conscience filter that gets compromised when I write horrible things is the problem. And lest any of us say, “I don’t do FaceBook,” let’s check our conversations too. We must remember that our displeasure with someone else’s decision does not give us license to act recklessly. That undermines the Church’s reputation and work. And on top of it all, there’s not a person who works for the Church who gets paid a wage that would warrant that type of treatment. Charity, brothers and sisters. We are called to charity. The Church is clearly not in need of more scandal: our sin — all of us — provides sufficient scandal.
– CORPUS CHRISTI. Next weekend is the feast of Corpus Christi. At the conclusion of the 10:30 Mass, we will make our Eucharistic Procession around the block. We sing hymns and offer prayers as we go. Last year, we had a good number of participants. I encourage all who are able to take part in this simple act of faith – a sign of our unity and God’s goodness.
